This blog post was originally posted on March 4, 2015, and was updated on October 8, 2018.

Take one look at the line of ham legs hanging in the windows of many bars, and it’s clear that meat is a central part of Seville’s diet! This can make things rather complicated for a vegetarian, especially when most restaurants in Seville even serve their veggies flavored with ham. That trend is changing, however, and more and more vegetarian options are cropping up throughout the city. Here are our picks for the top five vegetarian restaurants in Seville.

Photo credit: cyclonebill, Text overlay: Devour Spain.

One of our favorite little tapas restaurants, El Paladar is located near the plaza of Alameda de Hercules. They offer a separate menu with only vegetarian options so you won’t have just one dish to choose from! The prices are great and the service is extremely friendly. You might have to wait, as it is a bit small, but it is well worth it for the variety and the location.

Our picks? Try the cous cous and the asparagus with melted cheese!

Address: Calle Lumbreras, 14

Gaia Bar Ecológico is a small restaurant with a welcoming decor that serves 100% organic vegetarian and vegan cuisine. The owners, Rosario & Pepe, opened their first organic store in Seville in 1995 and actively promote health and ecology. In fact, Rosario is also licensed in pharmacy, acupuncture, and Chinese Medicine! The restaurant, which has been around since April of 2007, offers delicious dishes with good portion sizes.

Our picks? Try the menu of the day, as it is great value. Also the salmorejo de remolacha (beet salmorejo) and the desserts!

Address: Calle Luis de Vargas, 4

This little restaurant in the historic Alfalfa neighborhood of Seville will make you feel welcome from the first minute. At Restaurante Habanita you can find both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options with a latin flavor. Some of their dishes include arepas (a flatbread with delicious and fresh fillings), spinach lasagna and cous cous with sautéed onions and raisins. Definitely one of the local favorites for vegetarian alternatives in Seville!

Our picks? Try the Habanita Salad, the feta cheese samosas with mint syrup and the homemade desserts! Yum!

Address: Calle Golfo, 3

Smoothies, açai bowls and salads, oh my! This healthy eatery nestled in the heart of Seville’s Alfalfa neighborhood is the perfect place to fill up on fresh fruit and veg. Open from breakfast and straight through the day, snag one of the few tables inside or get your order to go and enjoy your eats in the nearby plaza.

Our picks? There’s nothing like one of their juices on a hot Seville day!

It’s true that when you think of options for where to eat in Seville, a vegetarian restaurant is not the first thing that comes to mind. With the city’s obsession with all things ham, being vegetarian is often quite tricky!
